I do not believe engineering ends at calculations, codes and theory. A large part of an engineer's ability comes from reading the real conditions of a project correctly, recognising what will be difficult to build, deciding, and finding the right answer at the right time. Over these years I have worked in all three parts of the construction industry: contracting, in both site and management roles; consulting, supervising road, building and structural works; and the geotechnical and soil-mechanics laboratory, on the technical side and in quality control. That is what stops me seeing a project from a single angle; I look at its problems as the client, the consultant, the contractor, the site and quality control each see them.
Today most of my work is in managing and delivering infrastructure projects, supervising road and building works, project control, quality control, construction contracts, valuations, quantity surveying and estimating, delay claims, geotechnics, and the analysis of technical and site problems. As managing director of Rah-Kush Sameh Shomal I also lead the development and delivery of road, water and structural projects. Alongside engineering, a long-standing interest in technology, analysis and learning has taken me into the financial markets as well; they are not a separate road from engineering for me, but part of the same forward-looking way of thinking.

How I see engineering
Honesty, commitment, quality, willingness to take responsibility, order, respect for the technical rules and protection of the client's interests are the principles I hold to in my work.
One of the most valuable things I learned in my early years was this: when an engineer or a manager treats a project as their own and works for its success, their own path opens differently too. That is why on no project am I simply someone carrying out a task. I understand the problem, find its root, propose a solution, and stay responsible for it until the result is right.
My aim is to bring knowledge, site experience, technical analysis and a managerial view together, so that infrastructure projects are delivered better and to a higher standard; and my ambition is to carry that further, on a larger scale and internationally.
